Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to help you feel informed, supported, and ready to begin
Whether you're new to counselling or exploring support for the first time, it's natural to have questions. Below are some of the most common queries I receive from individuals and couples across Australia. If you’re still unsure, feel free to get in touch—I’m here to help.
1. What issues can counselling help with?
Counselling can support you through a wide range of challenges, including:
- Relationship difficulties and communication breakdowns
- Anxiety, stress and emotional overwhelm
- Life transitions such as separation, relocation or career change
- Grief, loss and identity shifts
- Personal growth, self-awareness and emotional resilience.
You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit. Many clients come simply to gain clarity, reconnect with themselves, or improve their relationships.
2. What’s the difference between individual and couples counselling?
Individual counselling focuses on your personal experiences, emotions and goals. Couples counselling supports both partners in exploring relationship dynamics, improving communication and navigating challenges together.
If you're unsure which is right for you, we can discuss your needs during an initial consultation.
3. Do you offer premarital counselling?
Yes. Premarital counselling is a valuable way for couples to explore values, expectations and communication styles before committing long-term. It’s a proactive step toward building a strong, connected foundation. Learn more on the Counselling Services page.
4. Are sessions online or in-person?
At this stage, I offer online counselling sessions only, available Australia-wide. Online therapy is flexible, private and accessible - ideal for busy individuals, couples in different locations or those living regionally.
In person sessions will be available soon.
5. How long is each session, and how often should we attend?
Individual counselling sessions are typically 60 minutes. For couples, extended sessions of 75 or 90 minutes are also available to allow more space for both partners to be heard and supported.
Most clients attend weekly or fortnightly, depending on their goals and availability. We’ll work together to find a rhythm that suits you.
6. What if my partner doesn’t want to come?
This is common. You’re welcome to begin counselling individually. Often, one partner’s growth and insight can positively influence the relationship - and may encourage the other to join later.
7. Is counselling confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of ethical counselling. I’ll explain the limits of confidentiality (e.g., safety concerns) during your first session, so you feel informed and secure. Also, you can learn more on the Privacy Policy page.
8. What are your fees, and do you offer rebates?
Please visit the Bookings page for current fees. As a registered counsellor with the ACA, I do not offer Medicare rebates, but my rates are designed to remain accessible. If you have private health cover, check with your provider regarding eligibility.
9. How do I book a session?
You can book a session via the Bookings page.
10. What’s your approach to counselling?
I offer a person-centred, integrative approach tailored to your needs. My practice draws on evidence-based modalities including CBT, ACT, Solution-Focused Therapy and Gottman Method Couples Therapy. You can read more on the My Approach page.
If you have a question that’s not listed here, I’d love to hear from you. Reach out anytime - I’m here to support you.
