Default Email Account Changes |
|||||
As of December 11 2006, EMW Hosting will no longer support the default email address function in your hosting cpanel. This means that all unrouted email will no longer go to the address that you have listed as the default, and will bounce back to the sender of be deleted.
What does this mean? In the past, some people use the default account to give the impression that mail is going to many different accounts. For example, if you just set up info@yourdomain.com all mail delivered to info@yourdomain.com, accounts@yourdomain.com, and admin@yourdomain.com will all come to the info@yourdomain.com account. The problem with this is that all email sent to yourdomain.com will come to that default account. A common thing you will see is spam sent to wpdfnuj@yourdomain.com or similar, meaning that huge volumes of mail will be delivered. This can be a problem if default mail accounts are not checked. How do I check my default account? Enter your cpanel Click Mail Click Default Address This is where your current unrouted mail is being sent. If you have just your cpanel username, then you will have to set up a new POP account. The solution? Either set up all the mail accounts you want to recieve mail for, or set up forwarders to the main account that you have set up. I will quickly explain how to set up a forwarder: Enter your cpanel. Click the Mail icon. Click on Forwarders Click Add Forwarder Add the address that you want to forward to your main account. Repeat this for all addresses. |
